ABOUT THE BOARD
Valley Stream Union Free School District 30 is governed by a Board of Education comprised of five community members. Individuals who sit on the Board of Education are responsible for setting the policy under which the schools operate. Each Board member must be a member of the community. Board members are elected to serve for five-year terms of office.
The Board of Education usually meets twice monthly. Each of these meetings is open to the public. The first of these meetings is a regularly scheduled work session meeting; the second meeting is the regularly scheduled Board of Education meeting.
The work session meeting is usually held on the next to the last Monday of the month, while the regular Board meeting is usually held on the last Monday of the month at 8:00 p.m. at Shaw Avenue School.

*BOARD OF EDUCATION VACANCY EFFECTIVE JANUARY 1, 2026*
Join the Valley Stream District 30 Board of Education!
Effective January 1, 2026, the Valley Stream UFSD Board of Education will have one vacant seat following the resignation of Trustee Ingrid Wyllie-Dacon. The selected candidate would serve as a Trustee on the board from the date of their appointment through the next scheduled election, which is on May 19, 2026. Further service would be determined by results from the annual election.
Board Member Responsibilities:
- Attend Board of Education Meetings (~2 per month) | 2025-2026 Meeting Schedule
- Set District Policies | District Policy Manual
- Approve the school budget for community vote
- Work with the Superintendent on district priorities
Eligible candidates must:
- Be a resident of Valley Stream District 30 for at least 1 year
- Be able to read and write
- Be at least 18 years old
- Be a United States Citizen
- Not be a current District employee
- Not reside with another member of the Valley Stream 30 school board as a member of the same family
- Not hold another incompatible public office position
Anticipated Candidate Timeline:
- DEADLINE TO SUBMIT APPLICATION: Friday, January 23, 2026
- DISTRICT CONTACT TO ELIGIBLE CANDIDATES: January 26-30, 2026
- CANDIDATE INTERVIEWS WITH BOARD OF EDUCATION: Monday, February 2, 2026
- ANTICIPATED APPOINTMENT: Monday, February 9, 2026
