🎨✨ What an amazing evening at the Shaw Ave Art Showcase! Our hallways were filled with creativity, color, and incredible student artwork that truly highlighted the talents of our Shaw students. Families enjoyed walking through the showcase, celebrating student accomplishments, and experiencing the pride and excitement throughout the building.
Thank you to all of our students, staff, and families for making this such a memorable community event. We are so proud of the hard work, imagination, and artistic expression displayed by our talented Shaw artists!
A special thank you to our amazing art teachers, Mr. Santa Maria and Ms. Freiberg, for their dedication, creativity, and hard work in helping bring this wonderful showcase to life.

Mrs. Belmonte's Pre-K class turned into a team of tiny entomologists these past few weeks, diving into the fascinating world of bugs! Through hands-on exploration, singing songs, reading books and fun crafting, the children discovered what makes up an insect and the important roles these little creatures play in our gardens. This unit sparked their natural curiosity about nature.

Our 6th Grade Science Fair was an incredible showcase of curiosity, creativity, and innovation! Students proudly presented their projects, shared their scientific thinking, and demonstrated the hard work they put into their investigations and experiments. We are so proud of our 6th graders for their dedication, problem-solving, and enthusiasm for learning. Great job to all of our amazing student scientists!

Calling all young artists and readers! The Henry Waldinger Memorial Library Children’s Room is hosting a Summer Reading Club Bookmark Contest with the exciting theme, “Unearth a Story!”
Students in grades K–6 are invited to design an original bookmark for a chance to have their artwork printed and shared during the library’s Summer Reading Club. Entries may be created in color or black and white, and there will be one winner selected for each grade level!
All entries must be submitted to the Henry Waldinger Memorial Library by Saturday, May 30, 2026. Winners will be announced on Monday, June 8, 2026, with an award ceremony taking place on Tuesday, June 16, 2026 at 4:00 PM.

Mrs. Granger's class had a wonderful experience at Washington Avenue. Mr. Carr taught the class about the scientific method. They watched him conduct an experiment, and then they conducted their own. Students learned how physical activity affects heart rate. Thank you, Mr. Carr!

Ms. Critelli's  and Ms. Arena's classes had an exciting visit to Crossroads Farm, where they explored nature, learned about farming, and experienced hands-on activities in an outdoor learning environment!
During the trip, students had the opportunity to discover how food is grown, observe farm chickens and plants, and learn about the importance of sustainability and caring for the environment. It was a wonderful experience filled with curiosity, exploration, and meaningful learning outside the classroom

Mrs. Phifer & her 4th grade students  graders just discovered their new favorite thing: GIANT BUBBLES! They headed to the Science Museum of Long Island and let’s just say… physics has never looked so fun. Big bubbles, bigger smiles!

At the Shaw Ave Art Showcase, families and students had the opportunity to participate in a special SEL activity where students expressed their feelings by completing the prompt: “When I am at Shaw Ave, I feel…”
Students used creativity, color, and thoughtful words to share what makes Shaw Ave such a welcoming and supportive school community. From feeling happy, included, welcomed, and awesome, the display beautifully highlighted the positive connections and sense of belonging our students experience each day.

Mr. Gianesses’s class had a very special experience today as they released their butterflies after spending time learning about the butterfly life cycle and observing their transformation firsthand!
Students were excited to watch the butterflies take flight and celebrate the growth and changes they studied throughout this meaningful hands-on learning experience. This memorable activity brought science to life while encouraging curiosity, observation, and appreciation for nature.

🌿🔍 Ms. Critelli & Ms. V's class explored biodiversity around campus with a fun game of Bingo! Students searched high and low for different plants, animals, and signs of nature all around us. Learning comes alive outdoors! 🦋

Ms.Marino’s fourth grade class took a trip to the Science Museum in Manhasset. There they engaged in hands on experiments and activities that involved simple machine rotations as well as water molecule experiments.

Ms. Yochai’s class proudly showed their patriotic spirit by wearing red, white, and blue in honor of Memorial Day! Students came together to recognize and remember the brave men and women who have served our country while celebrating with school spirit and pride.

🇺🇸 Ms. C brought in festive red, white, and blue scarves for Khairo and Nylah as we celebrated Memorial Day and honored the heroes who served our country! ❤️🤍💙

Ms. Sinclair's Pre-K class had a great time learning all about the American flag and the importance of Memorial Day. These little learners loved creating the red and white striped pattern to signify the original 13 colonies. They also painted the blue portions of their flags and then glued their white stars to represent the current 50 states. Learning has never been so much fun!

🎉💙 As part of Shaw Ave’s 75th Anniversary celebration, Ms. Williams, Ms. Munford, Ms. Gonzalez, Ms. Roberts, and Ms. Schwartz dressed the part earlier this year and brought plenty of smiles, laughter, and school spirit to our hallways!
With creative costumes, walkers, robes, gray hair, and fun signs celebrating 75 years, they showed their Shaw pride in a memorable and hilarious way. Their energy and enthusiasm helped make this milestone celebration even more special for our students and school community.
Thank you to these amazing staff members for always going above and beyond to make Shaw Ave such a fun, welcoming, and joyful place to learn and grow! ❤️✨
