Valley Stream School District 30 embraces and honors the rich diversity of its students' backgrounds.

From Oct. 7-11, Forest Road School took the initiative to foster community partnerships within the school by crafting a Cultural Spirit Week that celebrated Hispanic Heritage and recognized the myriad influences that diverse cultures have brought to America. Students joyfully represented their heritage by displaying their country flags, participating in Individual Jersey Day, and adorning themselves in traditional cultural attire.

Heritage education serves as a captivating approach to teaching and learning about history and culture, utilizing material culture, human environments, and built environments as valuable instructional resources.

On Oct. 1, the Nassau County Police Department visited students at Shaw Avenue Elementary School in Valley Stream for their toy drive.

The NCPD, led by Commissioner Patrick Ryder, unloaded a truck full of toys for students to choose from. They also held a fun, interactive presentation in which they showcased their armored vehicles, police horses, K-9 unit and an SUV. Students learned about police officers and their day-to-day duties and they got a hands-on experience about some of the NCPD’s equipment. Additionally, students shared thank-you cards and posters with the police department to show gratitude for their local officers.

Valley Stream School District 30 thanks the Nassau County Police Department for taking time to educate Shaw Avenue’s students on their daily tasks and responsibilities.
