CURRICULUM GOAL 1| CORE SUBJECTS & 21ST CENTURY THEMES

BOARD OF EDUCATION’S GOAL(S): Students will receive instruction and show grade-appropriate growth in the following core subjects: English Language Arts, Arts, Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies as measured by local assessments. In addition, students will extend their understanding of core subjects at much higher levels by weaving 21st century interdisciplinary themes: Global Awareness, Financial, Economic, Business, and Entrepreneurial Literacy, Civic Literacy, Health Literacy, and Environmental Literacy into core subjects.

 

SUPERINTENDENT’S FOCUS GOAL(S)

 

  • By June 2024, review and assess the Curriculum & Instruction department and school administrators identification and monitoring of ELA Grades K-2 instructional practices that support a Balanced Literacy Framework, aligned with Next Generation standards and meet the needs of all students.
  • By June 2024, review and assess the Curriculum & Instruction department and school administrators identification and monitoring of Math Grades 3-6 instructional practices that support a conceptual understanding of the Next Generation standards and meet the needs of all students.

 

 

CURRICULUM GOAL 2| LIFE AND CAREER SKILLS

BOARD OF EDUCATION’S GOAL(S): Students will receive instruction that develops and demonstrates grade appropriate growth of adequate life and school skills to assist them in navigating complexities within these environments, such as flexibility and adaptability, initiative and self-direction, social and cross-cultural skills, productivity and accountability, as well as leadership and responsibility.

 

 SUPERINTENDENT’S FOCUS GOAL(S)

 

  • By June 2024, review and assess the Special Services department and school administrators ability to monitor and supervise the implementation of the District's systemic Social Emotional Learning Multi-Tiered Framework through brain research-based strategies and expansion of mental health professionals as measured by SEL assessment data. 
 

CURRICULUM GOAL 3| LEARNING AND INNOVATION SKILLS

BOARD OF EDUCATION’S GOAL(S): Students will receive instruction that fosters growth in creativity and innovation, critical thinking and problem solving, communication, and collaboration.

 

 SUPERINTENDENT’S FOCUS GOAL(S)

 

  • By June 2024, review and assess the Curriculum & Instruction department and school administrators implementation and monitoring of Enrichment for All programs that align with the core curriculum for all students in K-6.

CURRICULUM GOAL 4| INFORMATION, MEDIA, AND TECHNOLOGY SKILLS

BOARD OF EDUCATION’S GOAL(S): Students will integrate technology-driven learning in an effort to promote critical thinking, problem-solving, creativity, innovation, communication, and collaboration in the following areas: Integration of Technology, Professional Development of Instructional Technology, Digital Citizenship, and Cybersecurity.

 

 SUPERINTENDENT’S FOCUS GOAL(S)

 

  • By June 2024, review and assess the Technology & 21st Century Learning department and school administrators implementation of grades K-2 foundational technology and digital skills that aligns with core curricular teaching and student learning experiences.
  • By June 2024, review and assess the Technology & 21st Century Learning department and school administrators implementation of grades 3-6 technology and digital skills in an effort to maximize core curricular teaching and student learning experiences.
 

COMMUNICATIONS GOAL 5|  PARENTS, COMMUNITY, TEACHERS, AND STUDENTS

BOARD OF EDUCATION’S GOAL(S): Enhance communication among all members of the Valley Stream #30 community.

 

 SUPERINTENDENT’S FOCUS GOAL(S)

 

Parents

  • By June 2024, review and assess the Curriculum & Instruction department, Special Services, and school administrators use of translation services to support the educational engagement of families within our community.

Community

  • By June 2024, review and assess the Curriculum & Instruction department, Special Services, Technology & 21st Century Learning, and school administrators  cultivation of partnerships across schools with local community agencies and businesses to provide students with access to extracurricular activities, service learning opportunities.

Teachers

  • By June 2024, develop,  review, and assess the Curriculum & Instruction department, Special Services, Technology & 21st Century Learning, and school administrators systems to ensure a universal understanding of district priorities and initiatives.

Students

  •  By June 2024, review, and assess the Curriculum & Instruction department, Special Services, Technology & 21st Century Learning departments, and school administrators expansion of leadership opportunities for students to include their voice in decision-making. 

 

 

CAPITAL GOAL 6| ENVIRONMENT, BUDGET, COLLABORATION, AND PERSONNEL

BOARD OF EDUCATION’S GOAL(S): Enhance student learning opportunities through planning which includes prudent facilities and fiscal management.

 

 SUPERINTENDENT’S FOCUS GOAL(S)

 

Provide a Safe Environment Conducive to Learning

  • By June 2024, the Facilities Department  will complete a Building Conditions Survey and Conduct Visible Inspections for New York State Education Department.

Strong Collaboration with Advisors to the District

  • By June 2024, review and assess the Business and Human Resources, Curriculum & Instruction department, Special Services, and Technology & 21st Century Learning departments updates and/or creation of District policies and procedures as needed.
Personnel

  • By June 2024,  review and assess the Business and Human Resources  department implementation of  long-term structures and systems for the Human Resources department as measured by external audit conducted by Nawrocki & Smith.
 

SUPERINTENDENT'S  EVALUATION PROCEDURES

  • September| The Superintendent will submit and present to the Board a draft of Board-Superintendent’s  Focus Goals. The Board will meet with the Superintendent in Executive Session to determine the criteria, goals, and objectives the Superintendent will be evaluated for that year.
  • July| The Superintendent will present to the Board the final report of the Board-Superintendent’s Focus Goals at the annual Reorganization meeting. The Board will meet with the Superintendent in Executive Session to discuss their evaluation of the Superintendent’s performance on the basis of established criteria, goals, and objectives. 
  • August| The Superintendent will submit and present to the Board the annual  Strategic Plan Annual Update Report at the Board of Education Summer Business Meetings.  
  •  September| The Superintendent will file the evaluation procedures in the district office and be available for public review no later than September 10th of each year. The Board will provide the Superintendent with a written evaluation no later than September 10th of each year.
  • January| The Superintendent will submit and present to the Board their mid-year self-evaluation of performance. The Board will meet with the Superintendent in Executive Session to discuss and provide feedback on performance. 
  • June| The Superintendent will submit to the Board the final report of the Board-Superintendent’s Focus Goals for review.
