Principal's Message
On behalf of the administration and staff, I would like to welcome you to Shaw Avenue School. Shaw Avenue School currently has over 650 students in grades kindergarten through six. It is a pleasure to introduce myself to you as the new Principal. As the former Assistant Principal of Coram School in the Longwood Central School District and a curriculum coach and classroom teacher for the Hempstead and Roosevelt Public School Districts, I look forward to bringing my experience as an educator to the Shaw Avenue School family. During the new school year, in partnership with you, we will build on Shaw Avenue’s foundation for learning and work together to help our students continue to achieve at high levels. I am committed to the strong sense of community and family that exists at Shaw Avenue and I am excited to continue to nourish this relationship.
I am happy to share with you that this school year many curriculum enhancements are in place, including balanced literacy as the framework to teach English Language Arts, a continuation of the Math Pilot, and implementation of the district’s technology plan. In addition, Shaw Avenue School is delighted to have staff in new positions and new staff to join the family. Mrs. Amy Pernick is now our new Assistant Principal, Mrs. Boneville-Weick a grade five teacher, Mr. Solomon a grade five teacher, and Ms. Tauber a grade six teacher.
At Shaw Avenue School we are dedicated to providing the best possible education for your children. You can help us by reinforcing your children’s educational experiences at home, and by attending school events and PTA meetings. It is my goal to continue to learn as much about this great community so that we can all move forward together to meet the needs of our children.
