Valley Stream District 30 welcomes Dara Haynesworth as the new assistant principal of Forest Road Elementary School. She has nearly a decade of teaching and leadership experience in Long Island and New York City schools.

Most recently, Haynesworth worked as the math instructional coach at The Academy Charter School in Uniondale, providing training and support to 26 teachers and analyzing schoolwide student achievement data. She also founded the school’s enrichment program. Other positions include dean of instruction at the Brownsville Ascend Lower School, assistant principal of Success Academy Fort Greene, and second grade lab site teacher and grade team lead at Success Academy Prospect Heights, all in Brooklyn, and third grade teacher at Success Academy Harlem 1. In 2012, she was selected for the Teach for America program and taught in summer school programs at under-resourced public schools.

“I am beyond ecstatic to join the Valley Stream District 30 Team,” Haynesworth said. “I appreciate the warm welcome into “The Friendly Schools,” and am truly humbled to serve as assistant principal at Forest Road. I am thrilled to work with such an inspiring, dedicated, and innovative network of educators. Looking forward to a wonderful school year ahead!”

Haynesworth has a bachelor’s degree in global studies from Providence College and a master’s degree in childhood education from the Relay Graduate School of Education. She earned a master’s degree in educational leadership and school building leadership certification from New York University.
“Upon interviewing Mrs. Haynesworth, it was immediately apparent that she would be a good fit for Forest Road School,” Forest Road Principal Erin Malone said. “Her dynamic personality and passion for supporting successful outcomes will enhance our school community.”

Added Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Stirling, “Mrs. Haynesworth is a driven, passionate and knowledgeable educator who goes above and beyond to ensure that all students have access to an excellent education. I am confident that the new administrative team at Forest will continue to maintain and push forth current and new initiatives to meet the standards of excellence and equity.”
