In honor of Fire Prevention Month, kindergarten classes at Clear Stream Avenue and Shaw Avenue elementary schools received a special visit from local firefighters. Members of Engine Company No. 4 of the Valley Stream Fire Department pulled up to the front of each school in their firetruck to discuss fire safety with the young students.

The kindergarten classes learned about important safety rules such as when to call 911, how to stop, drop and roll and how to feel a door with the back of your hand in a fire emergency. The firefighters also showed the students their gear and taught them not to be afraid if a firefighter enters their house during an emergency. During Clear Stream Avenue’s presentation, former Clear Stream Avenue graduate Ryan Ortiz demonstrated how firefighters stay safe while extinguishing fires. It was an informational and exciting visit for the kindergartners.
