Each year, fifth-graders at Shaw Avenue Elementary School participate in the Dancing Classrooms Long Island residency. The program allows students to learn critical social-emotional and life skills such as confidence, focus, self-discipline, cooperation and teamwork. The fifth-graders worked with a talented team of dancers from the program who visited the school during the course of a ten week period. Students learned how to branch out of their comfort zones while learning a variety of diverse dances and the cultural history behind them.
As a culmination of the dance residency, the fifth-graders showcased their dancing skills for loved ones in the school’s gymnasium on March 27. Fifth grade teachers Karin Savino and Lauren Rosenthal helped the students prepare for the event. The dance residency was a memorable experience for all as students, dressed to impress, performed beautifully for attendees.
Great job to all the exceptional student dancers!
