The district is pleased to announce the appointment of C. Sandra Okafor, new board trustee. Ms. Okafor, a resident of Valley Stream, was appointed during the district’s Oct. 7 board of education business meeting. She will serve a one-year term, replacing former board trustee Matthew Khan who recently moved out of the district.

Ms. Okafor is a familiar face to Valley Stream District 30. She attended Shaw Avenue Elementary School as a child and is a Valley Stream Central High School graduate. Now a healthcare administrative professional, Ms. Okafor is looking to give back to her community by serving on District 30’s Board of Education.

“I want to offer suggestions and insight into how to prepare all of our students for the future,” she said. “I want to empower the superintendent and staff as influential thought-leaders for our community’s children. Curriculum, culture, and cost are key facets that I want to augment into partnership with fellow board members and school administration.”

Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Stirling is thrilled to add Ms. Okafor to the board, given her tight bond with the district and her professional background.

“I am very pleased with the community response to participate on the Board of Education,” he said. “I look forward to working with Ms. Okafor who is not only a graduate of our District but also has a strong background in business and policy analysis.”
