Second-graders in Mrs. Lichter’s class at Shaw Avenue School recently celebrated Dr. Seuss and Read Across America Day. The students worked in groups and rotated stations where they read a Dr. Seuss book. This included
One Fish Two Fish Red Fish Blue Fish,
Bartholomew and the Oobleck,
The Lorax,
Green Eggs and Ham, and
If I Ran the Zoo.
After reading each story, the students worked together to complete a fun activity. They experimented with oobleck and learned about solids and liquids, planted truffula seeds, graphed colorful fish, matched rhyming words, coins and the values, and used their inferencing skills to solve animal riddles.
The students learned that, “The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go!” – Dr. Seuss
