In honor of School Board Appreciation Month, administrators, staff, students and families gathered at Shaw Avenue School on Oct. 23 prior to Valley Stream District 30’s Board of Education meeting to celebrate the five members of the district’s Board of Education.

Highlighting the district’s “Show Your Character” theme for the school year, Forest Road School hosted a special recognition performance to show their appreciation for the service and dedication of the board members. Under the direction of music teacher Sarah Quiroz, members of the school’s sixth grade chorus showed off their singing abilities by performing “Do Re Mi” from the “Sound of Music” and their own twist on the song “Edelweiss,” titling the song “Valley Stream.”

Board members sat front row to watch the performance and heard praises from Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Stirling, Forest Road Principal Erin Malone and Assistant Principal Jennifer Lewner.

“It’s an honor to work for and with all five members of the board to make a difference for the students here in the district,” said Dr. Stirling.

In addition, Forest Road PTA co-presidents Natalie Cange and Darlene Hinds presented each board member with a gift bag and attendees were welcome to cake and refreshments after the show, courtesy of the PTA.
