District 30 Board of Education Elects Officers and Welcomes New Superintendent

The Valley Stream District 30 Board of Education held its annual reorganization meeting in the Shaw Avenue School Library on July 5. This marked the first board of education meeting for the district’s new superintendent, Dr. Roxanne Garcia-France.

At the start of the meeting, Valley Stream 30’s assistant business manager Ashley Starna was sworn in as the district clerk, along with trustee C. Sandra Okafor who was re-elected to the board this year. Together, members of the board of education voted to appoint Kelly Ureña as the board president for the 2022-2023 school year and Ms. Okafor as the vice president.

In addition, Dr. Garcia-France was sworn in to fulfill the duties of superintendent of schools and Anthony Cedrone was reappointed as district treasurer for the new school year. Following the oaths, Ms. Okafor led the business meeting in Ms. Ureña’s absence. She warmly welcomed Dr. Roxanne Garcia-France on behalf of the board and expressed how they are looking forward to working together.
