Principal Shares Uplifting Videos to Stay Connected to Students

Clear Stream Avenue School Principal John Singleton is bringing smiles to his school community through weekly videos, featuring a different grade level each week. The idea started after he created a video to the song “This Is How We Do It” which included third grade students washing their hands and doing their homework on Google Classroom.

Each Friday, Mr. Singleton posts a new video reflecting the times to the Clear Stream Avenue School Twitter page (@60clearstream). Most of his videos feature him singing or rapping and include photos and videos of students doing the actions. Mr. Singleton’s son, a film major and soon-to-be High Point University graduate, has also helped with the creative process.  In addition to Mr. Singleton’s “This Is How We Do It” video, he has created a video about the importance of social distancing with the school’s sixth graders, posted a slideshow video of kindergartners paying tribute to first responders and created a video celebrating the diversity of the school with first graders.

“I have a lot of fun doing it because I want the kids to know that I'm still around, that we still love them and that we care about what they’re going through,” said Mr. Singleton. “If my videos put a smile on my kids’ faces and our parents faces it’s all worthwhile.”
