The Valley Stream District 30 Board of Education is seeking a new board trustee for the 2019-2020 school year. The district has recently been informed and has accepted the resignation of trustee Matthew Khan because he moved out of the district. The board has decided to appoint a new trustee for the 2019-20 school year; then, that person or anyone else interested in running for the board may run for election next year to complete the final two years of Mr. Khan’s term.

The board of education’s main areas of responsibility are to establish district policies, develop an annual budget for public approval, approve and/or disapprove the superintendent’s recommendations on personnel matters and contracts, and review courses of study and textbooks.

The Valley Stream 30 School Board meets two times per month and these meetings run an average of two-three hours. Three of the board members also sit on the Central High School Board. These trustees will also meet two times per month, usually on the first two Tuesdays of the month. Special meetings are called on an as-needed basis. Typically, one board meeting is held in the months of July and August.

Qualifications for the trustee position include:
- Must be able to read and write.
- Must be a citizen of the United States and be at least 18 years old.
- Must be resident of the district for a continuous and uninterrupted period of at least one year.
- May not have been removed from any school district office within the preceding year.
- May not reside with another member of the same school board as a member of the same family.
- May not be a current employee of the school board.
- May not simultaneously hold another incompatible public office.
