School Budget Voting and Registration Information


Time & Place

Voting will take place on Tuesday, May 16, 2017 between the hours of 6:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. in the elementary school within your school election district:  Shaw Ave., Clear Stream Ave. and Forest Rd.

Electors will be voting on the budget of the Valley Stream Union Free School District 30 and the Valley Stream Central High School District and for the election of one (1) trustee to the Valley Stream #30 Board of Education.

Voter Registration

The last day of Voter Registration for the May 16, 2017 election is Tuesday, May 9, 2017.  You may register from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with the school secretary in the main office of each building on that day or, if more convenient, you may register after school hours from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. with an election inspector who will be in the lobby.
   
In addition, open registration will continue to be conducted through May 9, 2017 during the hours for enrollment of children for a school term at each of the District schools and from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the office of the District Clerk, at the Administration Offices, 175 North Central Ave., Valley Stream, NY.

Additional Registration Days

o March 15, 2017 - 12:30 p.m. - 4:15 p.m., and March 16, 2017 - 12:30 - 2:30 p.m., at the Parent Teacher Conferences with the school secretary in the school buildings.

o March 20, 2017 - 7:45 p.m. at the Board of Education meeting at the Shaw Avenue Library Media Center with the District Clerk.

o April 3, 2017 - 7:45 p.m. at the Board of Education meeting at the Shaw Avenue Library Media Center with the District Clerk.

o May 8, 2017 - 7:00 p.m. at the Budget hearing at the Shaw Avenue School Auditorium.

Voter Qualifications

In accordance with Education Law Section 2012, a person shall be entitled to vote at any school meeting for the election of school district officers, and upon all other matters, which may be brought before such meeting, who is:

a. A citizen of the United States, AND
b. Eighteen (18) years of age, AND
c. A resident within the district for a period of thirty (30) days next preceding the meeting at which he/she offer to vote, AND
d. Duly registered to vote at School District Elections, OR
e. Duly registered to vote in the General Elections, as certified by the Nassau County Board of Elections.

Qualified voters who are registered with the county board of elections are eligible to vote at the school district meetings without further registration.
