During the district’s regular Board of Education meeting on May 15, the Board approved tenure for three teachers and one assistant principal. Those that were recommended included Forest Road Elementary School Assistant Principal Jennifer Lewner and teacher Christopher Onorato, Shaw Avenue teacher Amanda Critelli and Clear Stream Avenue teacher Jamila Sloan.

Shaw Avenue teacher Jaclyn Gambino was also present during the celebration. Gambino received tenure in January. Before the official vote to approve the candidates, Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Stirling spoke about the high achievement of reaching this point in their careers.

“All the candidates tonight have really committed themselves on so many levels to the work that is being done here in Valley Stream 30,” he said. “We always look for staff that puts kids first and everyone that you see tonight has done that.”

As part of the district’s tenure tradition, band students led by music teacher Timothy Adams, performed a song in honor of the momentous evening.

Surrounded by family and fellow faculty members, each tenure candidate heard praises from their respective principal. Once their tenure was approved, Dr. Stirling presented each of them with the professional learning book “The Art of Teaching” by Horace Mann, to guide their future teaching.
