Sixth-grade students at Shaw Avenue Elementary School visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art on April 18 and 19 in an effort to explore and learn about different cultures.

During their trip, the students investigated the museum collections from ancient to modern civilizations. They also discussed and critiqued the works of art with their peers and with museum educators. While some of the students sketched their ideas throughout the day, others created sculptures based on balance in the museum’s art studio.

The trip not only focused on art but also integrated the classroom curriculum of history, math and science. Exploring the museum allowed the students to think creatively and learn more about history.
