Students of Forest Road Elementary School learned how to square dance with a week filled of fancy foot work from coordinator Pat Cannon.

Mr. Cannon, owner of Pat Cannon’s Foot and Fiddle Dance Company, visited Forest Road to conduct a four-day dance residency during gym period. During each session students learned the various formations of square dancing and the routine of dancing with a partner.

Most commonly associated with American folk and country music, students at Forest Road were able to apply their new square dancing skills to Top Pop 100 hits of today.  This program provided students with the opportunity to see a type of dancing dating back to the 17th century and learn how its relevance by improving their skills of collaboration, coordination and memorization.

This experience is one of many for Forest Road’s students as part of the district’s Arts in Education “Let’s Move” initiative.
