Shaw Avenue, Forest Road and Clear Stream Avenue sixth graders took the stage at Shaw Avenue School for their closing exercises on June 20, 24 and 25, respectively. Loved ones, faculty members, building and central administrators, along with District 30’s board of education, packed the auditorium for the milestone occasion.

During each ceremony, the graduates were praised by board members, fellow students, PTA presidents, their principal and Superintendent of Schools Dr. Nicholas Stirling. Dr. Stirling noted how special the Class of 2019 was to him personally as the graduates entered the district as kindergartners during his first year as superintendent. He encouraged the students to see the world, for “one of the best ways to get an education is through travel.” With this message in mind, Dr. Stirling gifted one lucky graduate from each school with the book “Oh, the Places You’ll Go” by Dr. Seuss and $100 for future travel.

The graduates from each school showcased their music abilities with performances during their respective ceremonies. Shaw Avenue students sang two inspirational songs under the direction of music teacher Stephanie Visceglie and members of the band performed “Uptown Funk” with the help of band teacher Brian Kalinowski. Conducted by teacher Sarah Fernandez, Forest Road students entertained the crowd with a remix to the song “Happier.” They also performed “A Million Dreams” and a dazzling rendition of “123456” while string ensemble members and student pianist Rachelle Griffith accompanied. Clear Stream Avenue band members performed “La Sorella” with teacher Timothy Adams and together, the Class of 2019 sang “I Wonder” and “Watch As We Walk On Our Way,” conducted by choral teacher Stephanie Cooke.

One by one, students were announced on stage and received their certificate of completion. Dr. Stirling and members of the board of education shook the hands of each graduate as loved ones cheered. The Class of 2019 exited the auditorium ready to take on the world of junior high school.

Congratulations to all the graduates!
