Forest Road Honors Influential African Americans
Students in Joanna Eckert's second grade class at Forest Road School in Valley Stream District 30 have been learning about influential African American individuals. Each student researched a person from history throughout the month of February, then wrote first-person narrative biographies and created puppets to represent their work. They shared information with their classmates, speaking in the voices of musicians, athletes, politicians, scientists and other inspiring personalities. Among the many individuals featured were Jesse Owens, Ella Fitzgerald and Mae Jemison.
